Tuesday Tips: No shampoo for 3 weeks
So, I began this trial on December 26th and decided to try the no shampoo trend that has been popping up constantly on my computer! I dropped my normal cheap shampoo and conditioner and exchanged them for Apple cider vinegar and baking soda. I found this recipe on another bloggers site. (You can find it here). Based on what I read, I made up my own measurements for this experiment and kind of perfected the amounts through trial and error. Before I conducted this experiment, I do what I always do...RESEARCH. I didn't want to fry my hair because conditioning with any type of vinegar just doesn't sound too beneficial. Here is what I found.
What I found on the internet:
- "It is softer, shinier, and less frizzy than before."
- "The biggest hurdle for me was psychological and getting over the fleeting smell of salad dressing in the shower"
- "My hair is getting healthier and more manageable the longer I avoid shampoo."
- "It’s a great way to treat itchy, dry scalp, and it leaves my hair soft, smooth, and shiny"
- "Balances pH level"
What I experienced:
- After the first wash, my hair felt greasier than before (perhaps due to improper portions of ingredients.)
- Hair felt smooth within the first few days, but tangled easily and knotted more often than usual.
- I hated doing this from day 1, until about the first full week in. My hair started becoming smooth and didn't smell, and I also noticed I was shedding less hair.
- Perhaps my hair is still adapting, but I have many mixed feelings about this method. My hair is very frizzy and hard to keep smooth and tame.
- It is easier for my hair to hold a curl or style and definitely feels stronger.
- Very natural, but mostly doesn't look good. (On me, anyway)

I did this trial for 3 weeks and only wash my hair roughly 3x - 4x a week. I have naturally red hair and it's a decent thickness. Not overly greasy or dry hair, fairly normal. Thanks for reading!
